Volkswagen to Introduce New EV Model at CES
Volkswagen today announced that it will introduce the newest member of its all-electric family on January 3rd at 4 pm PT and follow with a display at CES 2023 in Las Vegas.
The German automaker didn’t provide a lot of details, but we know that the vehicle will still be camouflaged, revealing only its shape and size.
Volkswagen also said it will confirm the name, suggesting that the new model will be the production version of the ID. Aero concept that was shown back in June.
Following the ID.4 compact crossover and ID.Buzz van, the company plans to continue its EV offensive in North America with a midsize sedan built on the same MEB platform.
Expect smooth lines and aerodynamic surfaces. This will have a positive effect on range, which is estimated at 620 km based on the WLTP test cycle used overseas. A more realistic figure for North America would be a bit over 500 km, better than the ID.4 (up to 443 km).
No other specs are available. Volkswagen previously hinted that this sedan will be its flagship model, so the price will reflect that.
Slated to launch in 2024, the ID. Aero (or whatever it’s called) will go head-to-head with cars like the Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2 and Hyundai IONIQ 6. Don’t miss our coverage of CES 2023, which will also include the anticipated electric Ram 1500 concept.
