Toronto Among 10 Worst Cities for Traffic in 2022
How bad was traffic congestion in Toronto last year? An early report shows that the Queen City ranked among the 10 worst places on the entire planet.
According to the 2022 Global Traffic Scorecard by INRIX, a world leader in mobility analytics and connected car services, Toronto landed in the 7th spot with 118 hours lost in traffic on average. It’s a dramatic increase of 59 percent from 2021, yet down 13 percent from pre-pandemic levels of 2019.

The five most congested cities in the world in 2022 were London (156 hours), Chicago (155 hours), Paris (138 hours), Boston (134 hours) and New York (117 hours).
The next closest Canadian city is Montreal, which ranked 33rd with 72 hours lost in traffic, up 38 percent from the previous year. It is followed by Vancouver (58th, 59 hours), Winnipeg (107th, 48 hours), Calgary (460th, 20 hours) and Edmonton (834th, 7 hours).
GPS manufacturer TomTom is expected to release its own annual Traffic Index sometime in the next few weeks. For 2021, Vancouver (53rd), Montreal (141st), Toronto (145th) ranked among the 200 worst cities globally for traffic.
