Upgraded 2024 Nissan GT-R Coming to Canada This Spring

Published on January 13, 2023 in New Models by Guillaume Rivard

While the all-new Nissan Z is grabbing the spotlight for 2023, the Japanese automaker’s flagship sports car will highlight the 2024 lineup.

Freshly unveiled in Japan and set to arrive in select Canadian dealerships this spring, the revised and upgraded GT-R keeps the current generation alive again. Three trim levels will be available including Premium, T-spec and NISMO, the latter going on sale in the summer. Pricing will be announced shortly before launch.

Enhanced Aerodynamics

All 2024 Nissan GT-R models are extensively revised to increase downforce and reduce drag. The enhancements include redesigned front and rear fascias, optimized bumper sides, revised grille shapes with a thinner mesh and reshaped rear wings.

On the GT-R NISMO, a new rear wing design sits atop dramatic, swan neck-style supports. With an almost 10-percent larger surface area, the wing's curvature has been specifically designed to optimize drag and downforce, Nissan says. The team also revised the NISMO's front lip, rear diffuser and canards.

T-spec

Introduced in 2021, the T-spec edition is back with the 2024 Nissan GT-R. This model stands out from the base Premium with NISMO carbon-ceramic brakes, a gold-painted version of the NISMO's 20-inch RAYS forged wheels, NISMO-tuned Vehicle Dynamic Control and wider front fenders. It also wears special badging inside and out, a dark Mori Green upholstery colour and a combination of semi-aniline and suede upholstery for the front seats.

Even more exciting are the two exclusive paint options that resurrect a pair of iconic GT-R colours. The first is Millennium Jade, which pays homage to one of the rarest GT-Rs ever, the R34 GT-R V-Spec II Nür. The second is Midnight Purple, a modern interpretation of the Midnight Purple III colour made famous on the R34 GT-R V-Spec.

Speaking of body colours, the GT-R NISMO also offers a new exclusive Stealth Gray option.

Unchanged Engine With One Exception

Under the hood, the 2024 Nissan GT-R unsurprisingly retains its twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6. Output is unchanged at 565 hp along with 467 lb-ft. of torque. This is once again channeled through a standard ATTESA ET-S all-wheel drive system and six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The GT-R NISMO, meanwhile, is still rated at 600 hp and 481 lb-ft. However, it benefits from a limited-slip front differential for the first time, which should reduce understeer and improve handling.

When it comes to the chassis, the independent double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension use Bilstein DampTronic shock absorbers offering three driver-selectable settings: Normal, Comfort and R. In Premium trim, the 20-inch wheels are wrapped in Dunlop high-performance summer tires and slowed down by Brembo brakes with six-piston front calipers and four-piston rear calipers.

As mentioned earlier, the T-spec boasts enlarged carbon-ceramic disc brakes. It also rides on Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT600 ultra-high-performance tires featuring a NISMO-specific compound.

Nissan did not release pictures of the interior because there are no major changes. The standard NissanConnect infotainment system with eight-inch display features Apple CarPlay and navigation, not to mention GT-R-specific, customizable data pages showing key vehicle data, including details like coolant and oil temperature, transmission gear selection, g-forces, turbocharger boost and even a stopwatch for lap timing.
