Bentley Debuts World's Fastest Four-Seat Convertible

Since they stopped hand rolling fenders on English Wheels, Bentley hasn’t exactly been a pinnacle of unique design. Initially aping Rolls Royce’s lines, the current VW-owned iteration of the Bentley Motor Company seems to have perfected the art of churning out countless models that look nearly identical to one another, and at this year’s Geneva auto show, they’re giving us another one.

Called the 2011 Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible, this new Bentley promises to be the world’s fastest four-seat convertible thanks to the 6.0 litre W12 powerplant capable of churning out an inspirational 621 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. The same engine found in the fixed roof Supersports model, the W12 is capable of running on either E85 or standard pump gas with no effect on power or speed. Speaking of speed, the Supersports Convertible comes with plenty, with a top speed of 202 miles per hour and the ability to ht 60 miles per hour in a scant 3.9 seconds.

But there are some departures from the standard fixed roof Supersports model most notably the inclusion of the rear seats (something the Supersports coupe does without). Likewise, carbon fibre buckets, a dashboard filled with carbon trim, and swathes of Alcantara make the Supersports Convertible a unique pairing of blistering pace and unsurpassed luxury. Of course, the only fly in the ointment for any potential purchasers may be the price tag: expected to handily top $300,000 US, the Supersports Convertible will almost double the standard Continental GT’s asking price.
