2011 Kia Sportage: a much awaited 3rd generation

Published on February 22, 2010 in Geneva by Gilles Olivier

As it’s little cousin, the Hyundai Tucson, has just appeared in dealership showrooms recently, the Kia Sportage, also a third generation vehicle, is about to profit from a world première in Geneva, graced with all new more solid and mature features.

It goes to reason that this vehicle shares the same platform and many mechanical elements with the Hyundai Tucson. Both are assembled at the Ulsan factory in South Korea.

Bodywork on the 2011Kia Sportage offers a more polished style compared to the preceding model, in addition to sporting an exclusive look that differentiates it from it’s little cousin.

Compared to the previous model, the new Sportage is somewhat larger in size, on all counts. However, it still remains a compact CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) that offers more space for passengers and cargo than previously.

Unlike the Tucson, this vehicle is equipped with a new dashboard, of an entirely new concept and design, that can accommodate a navigation system and all the multimedia connections that have become essential, even on lower range market versions.

Although information concerning the motor it will be equipped with for it’s arrival in North America is not known, it can well be imagined that it will be a 176 HP 2,4 litre engine. An all new more powerful and especially less gas consuming motor than the 2,0 litre it replaces, which was a gas guzzler.

The 2011Kia Sportage is offered in two versions: front wheel drive or AWD (All Wheel Drive) system.
