Volkswagen Polo GTI : Three letters to say it all…

For the people at Volkswagen, the Polo line of sub-compact cars is a series of products which is developed in a parallel way or almost, with the iconic Golf, but generally commercialized during the following year, when the new Golf cars are launched.

As with the Golf, the Volkswagen Polo is offered in various models, including the GTI models which cannot be ignored.

GTI models

These models are offered in hatchback versions with either three or five doors. They differ from other models in the line because of their grill which shows a grouping of red border lines associated to the GTI logo and because of raised air intakes. Diode headlights come as an option. The frame has been lowered by 15 mm and exhaust outlets are chromed.

The passenger compartment has a sporty look with deep wrapping sport seats, a leather sheathed steering wheel which can accommodate a shifting device, all aluminum pedals and of course GTI logos.

But the goodies are under the hood. The Volkswagen Polo GTI is equipped with a four cylinder 1,4 L TSI supercharged engine which puts out 180 HP and, most importantly, a torque of 184 ft-lb as of 2 000 rpm. The motor is coupled to a DSG seven speed transmission.

According to the manufacturer’s figures, this GTI series of the Polo models runs from 0 to 100 km/h in only 6.9 seconds, with a top speed of 229 km/h. Fuel consumption is 6,0 L/100 km, while CO2 emissions are of 139 g/km.

The Volkswagen Polo GTI will officially be revealed next week, right before my eyes, at the Geneva International Motor Show.
