New 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC Finally Arrives, Price Goes Way Up
The next-generation 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC took its sweet time to hit the market. Unveiled almost exactly one year ago, it will be available in Canadian dealerships starting in June. The company today announced pricing details, and we’re sorry to tell you that the new model is much more expensive than its predecessor.
The GLC 300 4MATIC, which started at $51,600 in 2022, costs as much as $58,900 for 2023, excluding freight, PDI and other fees. In the compact luxury SUV segment, only the Jaguar F-PACE and Porsche Macan demand more money.

To be fair, Mercedes-Benz has significantly updated the interior and the list of standard features. Every unit now comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, 11.9-inch portrait-style touchscreen and wireless charging for smartphones. Furthermore, the packaging logic has been considerably simplified to reduce the effort of choosing from numerous individual options. Of course, where design options such as paint finish, upholstery, trim and wheels are concerned, customers can configure their vehicles individually as before.
Five packages are available: Premium and Premium Plus add plenty of tech and gadgets, Intelligent Drive delivers ultimate safety, while AMG Line and AMG Line with Night Package enhance the exterior look. They’re priced from $2,700-$3,900.
By the way, the GLC 300 4MATIC will be the only model in the lineup at launch. Its turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine continues to generate 255 hp, but peak torque is increased from 273 lb-ft. to 295 lb-ft. A 48V mild hybrid system can provide an extra 148 lb-ft. while easing the burden on the combustion engine in certain situations for improved fuel economy.
The nine-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive system are still part of the mix, but there’s a new four-link front suspension along with amplitude-dependent shock absorbers, not to mention an off-road mode. When activated, it offers a "transparent engine hood” where the centre display shows a virtual view under the front of the vehicle, including the front wheels and their steering position, helping drivers recognize obstacles such as large stones or deep potholes.
No word yet on future AMG models, so we’ll have to be even more patient. Same thing when it comes to a plug-in hybrid variant. And what about the redesigned GLC Coupe? This one is scheduled to land next winter as a 2024 model. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
