2024 Range Rover Sport SV is JLR’s Most Potent SUV Ever

Land Rover, or JLR as we need to call it from now on, takes its new Range Rover Sport to unprecedented heights for 2024 with the addition of an SV model (P635) that happens to be the automaker’s most powerful production SUV ever. Ironically, it’s all possible thanks to an engine borrowed from a German rival.

Under the hood of the Range Rover Sport SV is a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 developed by BMW. It cranks out 626 horsepower and 553 lb-ft. of torque, an increase of 59 horsepower and 47 lb-ft. from the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 in the previous-generation Range Rover Sport SVR. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h is achieved in 3.8 seconds.

The SV is not just about power, of course. Engineers have reduced weight in several areas, including a carbon fibre hood and optional 23-inch carbon fibre wheels. Carbon ceramic brakes are also available for the first time.

Depending on the drive mode, one of which is a new SV mode just a push of a button away on the steering wheel, the SUV’s ride height can be lowered by 10-25 mm. A so-called 6D Dynamics suspension with an innovative combination of hydraulic interlinked dampers, height-adjustable air springs and pitch control acts as a semi-active system that reduces pitch and roll to help maintain a near-level body stance during cornering and acceleration.

Additionally, unique SV-tuned settings are applied to the Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, All-Wheel Steering, Torque Vectoring by Braking, Configurable Dynamics and Active Locking Rear Differential to deliver a more focused driving experience.

For the first time on a Range Rover, 305mm tires are fitted in the rear (285mm in front). We’re talking about Michelin Pilot Sport 4 all-season tires. And see those Brembo Octyma calipers? The front ones are the largest ever fitted to a Range Rover and feature no fewer than eight pistons. They can be specified in Yellow, Red, Carbon Bronze or Black.

Other highlights include an exclusive airflow-enhanced front end, reprofiled lower body sides and functional carbon fibre-tipped quad tailpipes for the active exhaust system. Inside, the unique satin carbon fibre-backed SV Performance Seats feature integrated headrests, more sculpted bolsters and illuminated SV logos on their backrests. Oh, and don’t miss the 29-speaker, 1430W Meridian Signature sound system.

Canadian pricing for the 2024 Range Rover Sport SV will be announced later. You should also know that the P440e plug-in hybrid variant will now be called P550e. EV range is unchanged at 82 km, but power and torque are boosted to 542 horsepower and 590 lb-ft., respectively.
