Dodge to Revive Stealth Name for New Hybrid SUV, Report Says

With the current Dodge Charger and Challenger slated to end production no later than December 31 of this year, another car from the brand’s past could be resurrected. Or at least its name.

Remember the Dodge Stealth (a rebadged Mitsubishi 3000GT) that was sold from 1991-1996? According to a new report by Motor Trend, it will return late next year—not as a sporty coupe but rather in the shape of an SUV replacing the Durango.

Look for a three-row midsize SUV with unibody construction, likely the WL platform currently underpinning the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Another option would be Stellantis’ new STLA Large architecture, which is designed for EVs but can also accommodate hybrids.

In any case, electrification will be part of the package, mixed with the formidable Hurricane engine. As Motor Trend reminds us, the original Stealth R/T was motivated by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder of its own.

The Stealth SUV is expected to launch in the second half of 2024 as a 2025 model. The publication also claims the Durango name could return on a future body-on-frame, full-size SUV—essentially the Dodge equivalent of the Jeep Wagoneer (which will soon add a 4xe plug-in hybrid variant), but cheaper.

These new Dodge models will join the freshly released Hornet, a compact crossover available in both ICE and PHEV configurations, the latter with 53 km of zero-emission range and eligible to federal and provincial EV rebates. And don’t forget, of course, the upcoming electric muscle car based on the Charger Daytona SRT concept. The times sure are changing.
