Confirmed: New Chevrolet Bolt EV is Coming

During a quarterly earnings conference today, GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra announced that the automaker met its target to produce 50,000 EVs in North America in the first half of 2023.

More importantly, though, Barra confirmed what she hinted at last month: Chevrolet will introduce a next-generation Bolt EV.

“Our customers love today’s Bolt. It has been delivering record sales and some of the highest customer satisfaction and loyalty scores in the industry,” Barra said. “It’s also an important source of conquest sales for the company and for Chevrolet.”

“We will keep the momentum going by delivering a new Bolt… and we will execute it more quickly compared to an all-new program with significantly lower engineering expense and capital investment by updating the vehicle with Ultium and Ultifi technologies and by applying our ‘winning with simplicity’ discipline.”

Drawing on various Ultium and Ultifi technological advancements will help GM bring the Bolt EV back to market on an accelerated timeline. When exactly? That remains a mystery. At the earliest, we imagine it will arrive in late 2024 as a 2025 model.

GM plans to share timing and specific details about the future Bolt EV “at a later date.” When it returns, the little hatchback will join the Silverado EV, Blazer EV and Equinox EV to give Chevrolet a quartet of next-generation electric models.
