Polestar Synergy Unveiled as Stunning Swedish Supercar Concept

Published on September 5, 2023 in News by Guillaume Rivard

Once again this year, Swedish EV maker Polestar held a design contest and the result is nothing short of spectacular. Presented as a 1:1 scale model during IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich this week, the electric fantasy supercar is called Polestar Synergy.

Entrants had to create a Polestar vehicle centred around the experience of performance. After shortlisting ten designs, the judging panel selected two exterior winners and one interior winner, who then collaborated with the Polestar Design team over more than six months to turn their three distinct dreams into one cohesive reality.

“This year, the story is as much about collaboration as performance. I’m proud that the team were able to guide and support the winners to realizing their dream as a full-scale model,” Polestar’s Head of Design Maximillian Missoni commented. “It’s not often student designers receive such exposure at the start of their career, something the Polestar Design Community on Instagram does so well, amplified this year by the 1:1 scale model and its planned tour of Polestar locations around the world.”

The exterior of the Polestar Synergy focuses on hollowed-out volumes, inspired by a hammerhead shark. Just look at the nose and front fenders that seemingly detach from the rest of the body. A bridge-type spoiler connects the fenders in the rear. This is complemented by outrageously sized aerodynamic elements up front and on each side. By the way, the car stands just 1.07 metres tall and 4.56 metres long.

Under the articulated glass dome, the single-seat cabin offers a performance-orientated seating position with a new experience focused on “floating comfort and control,” as Polestar describes it. The displays and controls, including the yoke-style steering wheel, are something that would please any video game enthusiast. The driver even gets to wear an augmented-reality headset.

No specs or technical details are available since this is merely a design study. Don’t miss our photo gallery at the top of the page for a closer look at the car’s unique lines and features both inside and out.

After its debut in Munich, the Polestar Synergy will make its way to the U.S. for the Hot Wheels Legends Tour in El Segundo, California from October 7, before making other appearances at Polestar locations around the country.

Speaking of Hot Wheels, Polestar has teamed up with American toy maker Mattel to inspire next year’s design contest and immortalize Polestar production vehicles as Hot Wheels and Matchbox collectibles in the future.

“The collaboration with Mattel for next year’s Polestar Design Contest and the forthcoming scale models of our production cars will bring the Polestar brand and this groundbreaking competition to an even wider audience,” Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said. “All of this proves that electric vehicles—in reality or as toys—can be just as, if not more, exciting than their ICE equivalents.”
