Here’s When the New Honda Civic Hybrid Will Launch in Canada

The return of the Honda Civic Hybrid in Canada and the U.S. was first announced last year, and now we know that the car will hit the road in mid-2024 as a 2025 model.

More specifically, production of the new Civic Hybrid sedan will begin in the spring in Alliston, Ontario, followed shortly by the Civic Hatchback Hybrid, which will be manufactured in Greensburg, Indiana. Both plants already build the CR-V Hybrid.

“Our Honda of Canada Mfg. associates are extremely proud to be named the lead North America plant for the new, built in Canada, Civic Hybrid sedan,” said Yoshiyuki Nakazawa, General Manager and Executive Vice President, HCM. “We are celebrating the historic production of our 6 millionth Civic this month and this new Civic Hybrid, which joins the CR-V Hybrid also built at HCM, will be an integral part of Honda’s global electrification plans.”

Those plans include equipping the brand’s core models with hybrid systems. So far in 2023, over 35 percent of CR-V and Accord sales are hybrid models, meaning nearly 20 percent of Honda's total sales in Canada are electrified models. The upcoming Civic Hybrid is projected to account for more than 40 percent of Civic sales in North America.

Power and Fuel Economy TBD

The 2025 Civic Hybrid will be powered by a version of Honda’s two-motor hybrid system, which was recently named by U.S. magazine Ward’s Auto as one of the 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems of 2023. In the CR-V Hybrid and Accord Hybrid, it generates a combined 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft. of torque while achieving 6.4 L/100 km and 5.3 L/100 km, respectively.

Specs for the Civic Hybrid remain unknown at this stage, but we expect efficiency to be right on par with that of the Toyota Corolla Hybrid/Prius and Hyundai Elantra Hybrid. Because the system will be offered in top trim, the price probably won’t please everybody.

Last year, Honda Canada announced it would spend $1.38 billion over six years to upgrade its Alliston facilities and implement innovative technologies to enable high-volume hybrid production.
