You Haven’t Seen Anything Like the Future Range Rover Electric Yet

Published on December 13, 2023 in Electric by Guillaume Rivard

JLR (formerly known as Jaguar Land Rover) today posted the first official pictures of its upcoming Range Rover Electric, claiming it will be its most refined vehicle ever created. And the quietest, too, obviously.

While we can only see a few details like the front grille, charging port and rear liftgate for now, look for the overall design to be pretty similar to that of the latest gas-powered Range Rover that hit the market last year.

Development continues with prototype testing in harsh weather conditions, from Sweden to Dubai, as engineers aim to deliver the same level of performance and off-road capability as any other Range Rover. In fact, JLR says the Range Rover Electric will eclipse other electric luxury SUVs when it comes to towing loads and clearing obstacles, including up to 850 mm of wading ability. Who said that water and electricity are a dangerous mix?

Technical specs remain a mystery for the most part, but we do know that the Range Rover Electric will be based on the same Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) that underpins the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. Its 800V electric system will help enable ultra-fast charging on public networks.

A global reveal should take place sometime in the first half of 2024. The Range Rover Electric will be built in Solihull, U.K. alongside existing mild and extended-range plug-in electric hybrid Range Rover models. An electric Defender should join the lineup not too long after.

By the way, you can now put your name on a waiting list by visiting the Land Rover Canada website. You still have plenty of time to decide if you’d rather have a Cadillac Escalade IQ or Rivian R1S instead.
