Lexus Unveils Official Canadian Pricing For New GX

Published on January 5, 2024 in News by Julien Amado

The Car Guide has already had the opportunity to get close to the new 2024 Lexus GX last June at an event held in Texas. We learned that the Japanese luxury SUV would be getting a complete overhaul for the 2024 model year, and among the major changes is a completely redesigned, beefed-up body that gives a much-needed facelift to the vehicle.

Underneath the new bodywork, Lexus has retained the body-on-frame platform to preserve the off-road capabilities that characterize this model. The platform gets a new engine: the old, naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 has been replaced by a turbocharged 3.4-liter V6. Power has been increased significantly in the process (from 301 to 349 hp), but it's torque that makes the biggest jump (from 329 to 479 lb-ft). The outdated six-speed automatic has been replaced by a ten-speed unit.

Finally, the new powertrain boasts a towing capacity of up to 8,000 lb, which is 1,500 lb more than the outgoing model. Lexus did confirm a future hybrid model last year, but we don’t have details about this specific variant at this time.

Six Models, From Luxury to Adventure

Lexus has created six different models of its 2024 GX. The base model is the GX 550 Signature, with an MSRP of $83,500 in Canada. The Premium model adds more luxury and safety features for $92,500. These two models have seven seats, 20-inch wheels, a sunroof, digital key and 10-speaker audio system.

The Luxury ($101,850) and Executive ($105,850) models focus more on refinement than adventure, as their name suggests, with large 22-inch wheels and captain's seats for the second row. These models sacrifice some towing capacity with only 6,955 lbs.

Finally, the Overtrail ($92,500) and Overtrail+ ($101,850) models are geared towards adventure, with 18-inch wheels wrapped with all-terrain tires, an adaptive suspension calibrated for off-roading, and skid plates designed to protect vital organs, among other rugged elements.

Assembled in Japan, the new 2024 Lexus GX will be delivered to dealerships in early 2024.
