16-Year-Old Ram 1500 Classic Stays Alive for 2024

Don’t look now, but the Ram 1500 Classic is somehow still alive and returning for the 2024 model year. A Ram spokesperson in the U.S. confirmed the news to Motor1 last week.

The Car Guide reached out to his counterpart in Canada, Jordan Wasylyk, who said the truck will soldier on north of the border, as well.

The Ram 1500 Classic is the previous-generation model—initially launched for 2009—that continues to be sold alongside the latest generation since 2019, offering customers a cheaper albeit less technologically advanced alternative.

Details about the 2024 Ram 1500 Classic are not available at this time, and the vehicle is not yet showing up on the brand’s online configurator. Things should be pretty much the same as they were in 2023, although a simplified lineup wouldn’t surprise us.

In Canada, the Ram 1500 Classic offers five trim levels including Tradesman, SLT, Express, Night Edition and Warlock. Only the first one can be specified with 2WD—all the others come with 4WD. Additionally, the single cab and 8-foot-long cargo bed are exclusive to the Tradesman and SLT models.

A 3.6-litre V6 (305 horsepower) comes standard across the line and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 (395 horsepower) is a $2,495 extra.

Speaking of pricing, the 2023 Ram 1500 Classic ranged from $47,440-$62,735 including freight, PDI and dealer fees. That’s not counting the generous discounts from the manufacturer. By comparison, the 2024 Ram 1500 currently starts at $54,015 and goes up to $87,615—or a whopping $122,565 if you consider the 702-horsepower Ram 1500 TRX.

As previously reported, the Ram 1500 is getting a major update for 2025 and is slated to go on sale as early as the first quarter of this year. Will it finally toll the bell for the 1500 Classic? We shall see.
