Electrifying 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Makes Canadian Debut in Montreal

Hyundai always has something exciting in store for visitors at the Montreal Auto Show. This year, in addition to the new 2024 Santa Fe and its Canadian-exclusive NHL Edition limited to 500 units, the Korean automaker is bringing the lightning-fast 2025 IONIQ 5 N to the country for the first time.

This is the high-performance, track-tuned version of Hyundai’s popular electric crossover. And in case you missed it, The Car Guide’s Gabriel Gélinas got the opportunity to go behind the wheel last fall and his first-drive review is still fresh off the digital press.

In addition to sporting a more muscular appearance, the IONIQ 5 N gets a heavy dose of tech and power to please thrill-seeking EV drivers. The dual-motor system generates as much as 601 horsepower, with an extra 40 horsepower available for 10 seconds when activating the N Grin Boost function. How fantastic is that? As a result, 0-100 km/h sprints can be achieved in a mere 3.4 seconds.

On the sport steering wheel are buttons for the N e-shift and N Active Sound+ features. The first one simulates the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission of ICE-powered N cars, while the other simulates the sound effects of those cars when the ‘Ignition’ theme is selected. If you prefer, ‘Evolution’ provides a signature high-performance sound inspired by Hyundai’s RN22e concept, while the ‘Supersonic’ theme is a unique concept inspired by twin-engine fighter jets.

The IONIQ 5 N is also blessed with a stiffer chassis, revised suspension, upgraded brakes, as well as a comprehensive array of driver assistance features, some of which are designed to improve track performance. Trust us, it’s an experience you’ll hardly find with another EV manufacturer.

We can’t wait to spend more time in the IONIQ 5 N, whether at Mont-Tremblant, Mosport or some other Canadian race track. And when we do, we’ll obviously have a detailed review to share with you.
