Nissan Ariya Loses Longest-Range Model in Sophomore Year

Published on January 29, 2024 in Electric by Guillaume Rivard

Nissan has announced Ariya pricing details for the 2024 model year, the electric crossover’s second in Canada. There are no significant changes to content or technology, but the lineup is revised nonetheless.

The first thing you’ll notice is that the base price is identical to last year. The second is that the Venture+ model is no more. Remember, it was the one offering the longest range of all at 489 km. A bummer? Sure. A surprise? Well, Nissan did the same thing with the LEAF hatchback for 2023, so not really.

Here’s the simplified lineup for the 2024 Nissan Ariya, which is now on sale:

Model

Price (MSRP)

Engage FWD

$52,998

Evolve e-4ORCE

$59,998

Evolve+ FWD

87 kWh

Evolve+ e-4ORCE

$64,998

Evolve+ e-4ORCE Platinum

The cheapest Ariya makes do with a smaller battery, a single motor producing a modest 214 horsepower, as well as front-wheel drive. Range is not that great at 348 km. Moving up, the dual-motor, AWD-equipped Evolve e-4ORCE model only manages 330 km, which is even less competitive. At least output is boosted to 335 horsepower.

Other Ariyas benefit from a larger battery, but the longest range you can hope for is 465 km with the single-motor Evolve+ FWD (238 horsepower). Adding a second motor—for a total of 389 horsepower—and AWD reduces range to 438 km, or 428 km if you select the Platinum Package, which increases vehicle weight to more than 5,000 lbs.

If you ask Nissan, they’ll tell you that range is obviously important to EV buyers, but that the changes to the lineup better reflect the features and technologies that people look for and want the most. True, going from 489 km to 465 km is nothing major, but we figured that automakers were working to improve range, not the other way around.

The silver lining in all of this is that the Ariya Evolve+ FWD now costs $2,000 less than it did last year, when it retailed from $64,998.
