Podcast: Slowing EV Demand, Manufacturers Backing Out of Electrification Plans - The Industry's Current State of Affairs
On the 24th episode of The Car Guide Podcast, LP and Gab talk about the current state of the automotive industry. EV demand is slowing, manufacturers are reconsidering their electrification strategies and there are considerable rebates on EVs in North America. What does all this mean for the customer ? Our hosts try to answer the question.
Honda has unveiled the CR-V e:FCEV, which combines a fuel cell system with a high-voltage 17.7kWh battery that can be replenished using a level-2 charger or a standard power outlet. The vehicles won't make it to Canada, but it brings new technologies that are worth exploring. In this segment, LP and Gab discuss why integrating both hydrogen (FCEV) and electric (BEV) technologies has its advantages... and downsides. Our hosts also discuss the recent death of the Apple Car, a program that swallowed countless resources at Apple.

Finally, for the test drive segment, LP describes his driving impressions at the wheel of the new 2025 Ram 1500. The popular full-size pickup had lost his trusty 5.7-litre HEMI V8 and gets a twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder instead. This engine comes in two power levels.
Gab took the 2024 McLaren 750S for a spin on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway circuit in Nevada. This model replaces the 720S and brings, according to Gab, quite a bit of spice to an already good recipe.
