Airbag-Related Recall Affects Nearly All Honda Models, Some Acuras
A safety issue with the sensor in the front passenger seat is forcing Honda to recall a large number of models and units, including more than three quarters of a million in the U.S. alone.

The models we’re talking about include some 2020-2022 Honda Pilot, Accord, Civic, HR-V and Odyssey, 2020 Fit and Civic Coupe, 2021-2022 Civic Hatchback, 2021 Civic Type R and Insight, and 2020-2021 CR-V, Passport, Ridgeline and Accord Hybrid. Honda’s luxury brand is affected, too, more specifically the 2020-2022 Acura MDX and RDX along with the 2020-2021 TLX.
So, what’s the issue exactly? According to documents Honda sent to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the weight sensor in the front passenger seat may crack and short circuit, in which case it could fail to turn off the airbag as intended when a child or a small teen/adult is seated. This increases the risk of injury.
The automaker said it has received nearly 4,000 warranty claims so far but is unaware of any injuries or deaths related to a faulty seat sensor.
The fix, as you can guess, is simply to have the sensor replaced by a Honda or Acura dealer—at no cost to the owner, of course. Notifications will be mailed starting in mid-March. You can also check out Honda Canada’s recall website for more information.
