Everything You Need to Know About the 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron
The first Audi vehicle to be built on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform, and a close cousin of the Porsche Macan EV sharing this architecture, the Q6 e-tron has made its market debut, with the brand's first European customers due to receive their vehicles in the summer of 2024. In North America, the order book is expected to open this summer, with deliveries scheduled for late 2024.
Like the Q8 and SQ8 e-tron, the Q6 is also accompanied by its sportier variant, the SQ6 e-tron. After our initial contact with the pre-production prototypes in the summer of 2023, and the unveiling of the interior at the IAA Mobility event last September, we finally have the full details concerning these new electric Audis.

270 kW Charging Power
Like the J1 platform on which the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan are based, the PPE platform features an 800-volt electrical system. The lithium-ion battery, comprising 12 modules and 180 cells, has a capacity of 100 kWh, of which 94.9 are usable. The Q6 e-tron's range is rated at 625 kilometres, while the more powerful SQ6 e-tron achieves 100 kilometres less on a single charge, according to the WLTP (World Light-vehicle Test Procedure) standard, which is highly optimistic and, quite frankly, does not reflect reality. We can therefore expect an actual range figure rated between 470 and 500 kilometres for the Q6 e-tron, and 370 to 400 kilometres for the SQ6 e-tron.
In our brief test of two pre-production prototypes, our energy consumption was 22.3 kWh/100 km with the Q6, and 23.7 with the SQ6. Recharging can be carried out with a maximum power of 270 kW, which means that the battery can go from 10% to 80% charge in 21 minutes, under these conditions. On a Level 2 terminal, recharging peaks at 11 kW.
Prioritized Driving Dynamics
In certain markets, the Q6 e-tron will eventually be available in two RWD versions, one providing greater range and the other serving as an entry-level model. But models sold here in North America will be powered by two motors with a combined output of 382 hp and maximum torque of 395 lb-ft, enabling the Q6 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, according to Audi.
The SQ6 is rated at 510 hp and 605 lb-ft of torque, with a time of 4.3 seconds. The Q6 and SQ6 prioritize torque delivery to the rear axle to enhance dynamics, which is why they are equipped with wider rear tires.
E3 1.2 and Digital Stage
The Q6 and SQ6 are the first Audi models to receive a new End-to-End Electronic Architecture named system called E3 1.2, which provides access to a whole range of digital functions. Powered by five high-performance computers, this system controls everything from infotainment to steering and braking systems. It has also been designed to allow the eventual integration of new functionalities via over-the-air updates. The interior of the Q6 and SQ6 features what Audi calls the Digital Stage, a digital panel consisting of two screens.
The first, at 11.9 inches, is the virtual cockpit, and the second, at 14.5 inches, is touch-sensitive and serves as an interface with the infotainment system. This entire area is designed like an arc reflected in the curved shape of the panel. In front of the passenger is a third 10.9-inch screen designed for viewing video content or for assisting with navigation, without distracting the driver.
Augmented Reality Head-Up Display
Another interesting gadget is the augmented reality head-up display, which presents a large image tilted through the windshield towards the driver, displaying speed information, road signs and assistance and navigation icons. The long distance of the virtual image gives the impression that the elements represented are floating up to 200 metres in front of the vehicle. The optional Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system features an 830-watt amplifier and 22 speakers, four of which are integrated into the front seat headrests. The base of the windshield also incorporates an LED light strip called Interaction Light or IAL that spans from door to door.
This strip provides on-board ambience and enables communication with the vehicle's occupants by means of visual animations. On start-up, this strip performs the welcome ceremony, while other animations indicate that the vehicle is recharging, or that the lane-change indicator or hazard lights are activated. The 2,899-mm wheelbase ensures excellent legroom for second-row passengers. The trunk has a capacity of 526 litres, but can reach 1,529 litres when the rear seatbacks are folded down. In addition, the Q6 features a small front frunk-type trunk with a volume of 64 litres, providing space for a charging cable or other small items.
Customizable Visual Signatures
In terms of size, the Q6 and SQ6 mid-size SUVs measure 4,771 mm in length, 1,993 mm in width and 1,648 mm in height. As the powertrain is electric and the battery located in the vehicle floor, the long wheelbase means very short overhangs.
Drivers can choose from eight different animations for the headlamps and lights via the telematics system or MyAudi app, and thus personalize the appearance of their vehicle.
The new Q6 e-tron should launch in North America towards the end of 2024.
