Kia EV9 Secures Double Win at 2024 World Car Awards
Every year, the World Car Awards are announced during a special ceremony at the New York International Auto Show. There are six categories, and remarkably, a pair of vehicles from Chinese automaker BYD were among the finalists in two of them.
For the past 20 years, the World Car Awards jury has included automotive journalists from all over the world. This year, Canada is represented by The Globe and Mail’s Mark Richardson, Autonerve’s Regina Chan, as well as yours truly.

Other members of the jury come from Australia, Austria, Brazil, China, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The top three finalists in each category were previously announced at the Geneva Motor Show. Without further ado, here are the winners of the 2024 World Car Awards:
World Car Design – Toyota Prius

World Urban Car – Volvo EX30
