Darker-Looking Jeep and Ford Models Debut Following Solar Eclipse
Jeep and Ford both used the occasion of Monday’s total solar eclipse to announce new, dark-style packages for one of their respective off-roaders, namely the Jeep Gladiator and Ford Bronco Raptor.
Let’s start with the former, which can be specified in any body colour with a NightHawk package at $8,195. It includes 20-inch wheels in a painted gloss black finish, all-terrain tires, black bumper accents and black rock rails. Disappointingly, the hard top remains body-coloured.

Available exclusively with an automatic transmission and heavy-duty Dana 44 axles (3.73:1 gearing), the 2024 Jeep Gladiator NightHawk is priced at $67,435 including freight and PDI. It can be ordered this month through Jeep dealers. Production will be limited to 2,000 units for Canada and the U.S.
Over at Ford, the fearsome Bronco Raptor adds a Black Appearance Package at $6,995. This one includes a Shadow Black roof with matching mirror caps, painted roll bar and fender flares that combine to create a striking contrast with the SUV’s various paint options.
Also part of the mix are Matte Black steel bumpers, skid plate and tow hooks, plus unique Raptor bodyside and hood decals. Ford says customers can order the Black Appearance Package at a dealer soon, without being more specific.
If you ask us, Ford and especially Jeep are asking too much money for their new packages given what they actually add to the vehicles. They’re probably hoping that the solar eclipse craze will linger and prompt enthusiasts to order one. On the other hand, if you can’t resist the dark new look, a dealer-installed package is arguably a good alternative to doing the modifications yourself.
