Software Issue Causing More Problems With Volkswagen ID.4’s Displays

Published on May 23, 2024 in Recalls by Guillaume Rivard

The list of recalls for the Volkswagen ID.4 keeps getting longer and is now just shy of ten recalls. The latest one aims to fix a problem with the displays.

A little over 8,000 units of the German electric crossover are affected in Canada, covering the first three model years (2021-2023).

In some cases, a software problem could cause the instrument cluster and centre touchscreen to reset or stop working altogether. As a result, drivers may not be able to see specific information about the vehicle, including the speedometer and certain warning lights and/or messages.

According to the recall notice posted today, it’s also possible the rear-view camera image may not display when the transmission is shifted into reverse, increasing the risk of a collision.

As so often happens, the remedy is nothing more than a software update performed by a dealer. Affected owners will be notified by mail in the next few weeks.

To be clear, this recall doesn’t include the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4, which benefits from a number of technical enhancements. Click on the link to read our full review.
