2025 Subaru WRX tS: More New Blood, Still No Signs of a True STI
As you know, the Subaru WRX lineup expanded for 2024 with the addition of not one but two new models including the RS (or TR in the United States) and GT. Well, the former will not return for the 2025 model year as a new WRX tS is slated to take over.
That’s right, the familiar moniker, which stands for “tuned by STI,” is back once again and follows the 2024 BRZ tS two-door coupe.

The main change can be found in the suspension, which gains new electronically controlled dampers. Those were exclusive to the top-line WRX GT equipped with an automatic transmission, but they’ll now be available in the manual WRX tS, offering Comfort, Normal and Sport settings.
The newcomer keeps the high-performance Brembo braking system from the RS, including 6-piston front and 2-piston rear calipers as well as larger pads and rotors. The system provides enhanced stopping power, fade resistance and pedal feel.
Aesthetically, the WRX tS stands out with a Crystal Black Silica finish on the mirror caps, roof-mounted shark fin antenna and rear spoiler. The rear deck lid wears the appropriate “tS” badge, while the taillights glow with a look inspired by volcanic magma. The 19-inch wheels in satin grey finish are wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires just like the current RS model.
Drivers will be surprised to find a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster instead of the conventional gauges and display. The new panel offers improved legibility and the capability to prominently show additional information such as a map and route guidance information.
Meanwhile, we love the new blue inserts on the console, door panels and Recaro sports seats combining leather and Ultrasuede. “WRX tS” logos are embossed on the headrests, not to mention the floor mats. Also, don’t miss the STI-branded ignition start button. For weight savings, a lower centre of gravity and additional headroom for helmeted drivers, the power moonroof has been deleted.
One last thing: the turbocharged 2.4-litre boxer engine sitting under the hood still produces 271 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque from 2,000-5,200 rpm. No upgrades, there.
The 2025 Subaru WRX tS will go on sale early next year. Canadian pricing will be announced closer to launch, but we expect the new model to cost around $43,000 plus freight and PDI. Considering the exchange rate, customers on this side of the border have a much sweeter deal than those in the U.S.
