New MINI 5 Door Unveiled, Set to Return to Canada
A few months after the debut of the next-generation MINI 3 Door in gas-powered configuration, the 5 Door variant is now joining the lineup. BMW Canada has confirmed to The Car Guide that it will come to our shores later this year.
With a length of 4,036 mm, a width of 1,744 mm and a height of 1,464 mm, the body dimensions are almost identical to those of its predecessor—not to mention the all-new, fully electric MINI Aceman, which has yet to be confirmed for Canada. Compared to the new MINI 3 Door, the wheelbase is 72 mm longer and the body is 172 mm longer.

In terms of interior space, more specifically for cargo, the trunk expands from 275 litres to 925 litres by folding the 60/40 split rear seats. It doesn’t quite match the outgoing MINI 5 Door (278-941 litres), but is obviously more capacious than the new 3 Door (210-725 litres).
The latter, as reported in February, will come to North America exclusively with four-cylinder engines. The latest MINI 5 Door has been announced with a base triple-cylinder engine (154 horsepower) that doesn’t seem to be headed our way. The alternative, in Cooper S trim, is a four-cylinder unit producing 201 horsepower, up from 189 horsepower previously. Look for 0-100 km/h sprints in 6.8 seconds but no manual transmission, sadly.
One thing’s for sure, the car will retain its signature go-kart handling. On the other hand, it should be a little less nimble around town with a turning circle that has grown from 11 metres to 11.4 metres, which is barely smaller than that of the new MINI Countryman.
The exterior design is pretty much identical to what we’ve seen on the new MINI 3 Door. Incidentally, the wheels range from 16-18 inches in size, while the roof can be either body-coloured, painted in a contrasting finish or specified with a multi-tone treatment.
The new interior is cleaner and a bit roomier while adding a bunch of cool tech. Similar to the Cooper SE, you won’t find an instrument cluster in front of the steering wheel. Now, it’s all about that 9-inch round OLED touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard, which is powered by a brand new infotainment system complete with an intelligent voice assistant named Spike. So-called “MINI Experience Modes” that change the look, sound and feel of the cockpit are available, as well.
Canadian pricing for the 2025 MINI 5 Door will be announced at a later date.
