Updated 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Lineup to Include Off-Road-Focused Model
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is getting a mid-cycle update for 2025 and will show up in Canadian dealerships later this year. In addition to all the changes we’ve previously talked about, a new XRT model with off-road driving in mind will be part of the lineup, with deliveries starting in the first quarter of 2025.
To be clear, the plan is not to take on Wranglers and Broncos, but with competitors like the Mustang Mach-E Rally hitting the market, the Korean automaker felt the need to do something. And the result is a beefier, more rugged package that admittedly isn’t the most handsome out there.

“The digital camo pattern was created using our IONIQ pixel as the building block. The matte-black 18-inch wheels also display the same IONIQ pixel theme while providing strength and cooling,” says Brad Arnold, senior design manager of exteriors, Hyundai Design North America.
Available in exclusive colours including Ultimate Red and Cosmic Blue Pearl, the exterior features various black accents and XRT-specific badges. Thanks to a suspension raised by nearly an inch (+23 mm) and tuned differently, the EV’s approach and departure angles are increased to 19.8 degrees and 30 degrees, respectively. All-terrain tires (235/60R18) and dual front recovery hooks with a capacity of 5,834 lbs are also included. Oh, and let’s not forget the rear wiper, a new addition on every 2025 IONIQ 5 model.
The interior receives XRT-badged all-weather floor mats, H-Tex (leatherette) seating surfaces featuring XRT-unique pattern and logo, plus a black headliner. As for range, the official ratings for the entire 2025 IONIQ 5 lineup have yet to be posted by Natural Resources Canada. With the new 84kWh battery, Hyundai is targeting over 400 km in dual-motor XRT trim.
Leading the Way
It’s important to note that the IONIQ 5 XRT will become not only the first model in Canada to be manufactured at the brand new Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) facility in Georgia (U.S.), which will also build the upcoming three-row IONIQ 9, but also the first Hyundai model in Canada to feature a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port. Drivers will have access to more than 17,000 Tesla Superchargers across the continent without using an adapter.
In Canada, other 2025 IONIQ 5 models, including the high-performance IONIQ 5 N, will come with a Combined Charging System (CCS) port and will be offered a NACS adapter. However, all-new or refreshed Hyundai EVs will come exclusively with an NACS port beginning in the first quarter of 2025.
