Watch: 2026 Honda Passport Putting Toyota 4Runner in Crosshairs
As we reported in July, Honda is working on a new, second-generation Passport that will be revealed this fall ahead of arrival at dealers early in 2025 as a 2026 model. In TrailSport trim, the Japanese manufacturer calls it “the most adventure-ready and capable Honda SUV ever.”
Enough to keep pace with a Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco? Don’t fool yourself. However, it might just have what it takes to go head-to-head with the venerable Toyota 4Runner, which is completely redesigned for 2025 after a decade and a half with no major changes.

As development continues, Honda today released a 30-second video shot in Moab, Utah (incidentally the Wrangler’s favourite playground) to preview some of the 2026 Passport TrailSport’s capabilities:
Clearly, Honda engineers and designers have raised the bar, ensuring the vehicle can tackle more extreme conditions and overcome bigger obstacles. They’ve also put it to serious test in the sandy dunes of western Michigan and the muddy trails of the Appalachian mountains.
Mechanically, look for a new, more powerful 3.5-litre V6, Honda says. We expect output to increase from 280 hp to 285 hp, emulating the latest Pilot. In fact, the engine will be mated to a high-strength 10-speed automatic transmission instead of the previous 9-speed unit, just like the company’s three-row SUV. An enhanced version of the i-VTM4 all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring is likely in store, too.
A more rugged appearance, upgraded tires and a more versatile interior should complete the package. Further details about the 2026 Honda Passport will be shared in the coming weeks.
