2025 Ford Expedition Boasts Fancy New Interior, Rugged Tremor Model

Published on October 3, 2024 in New Models by Guillaume Rivard

Following the lead of the Lincoln Navigator, which is completely revised and improved for 2025, the Ford Expedition today gets an overhaul of its own. The company says it spent over a thousand hours talking to customers and their families to better understand their current needs and improve its full-size SUV accordingly.

Once again available in regular-wheelbase and long-wheelbase MAX configurations, the fifth-generation Expedition doesn’t look radically different from its predecessor, but the redesigned front fascia and wheels immediately catch the attention.

In the rear, three-quarters of the new split gate raises like a traditional liftgate, while the lower quarter folds down like a truck’s tailgate, transforming into a bench or work station (max 500 lbs capacity). It even comes with an available seatback. Accessing the cargo area has never been easier, too—just stand near the back of the vehicle for a few seconds with the key fob in your pocket and the split gate will automatically open. What’s more, four lighting zones surround the exterior of the vehicle to provide ample lighting for the tailgate, campsite and everything else in between.

First-Ever Expedition Tremor

Inspired by the similarly named F-150, the new Tremor model replacing the Timberline stands out more than other Expeditions (Active, King Ranch and Platinum) with a rugged appearance and several features that elevate off-road capability. The segment-leading 10.6 inches of ground clearance are the result of 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires and a re-tuned suspension. There are Raptor-style running boards, as well as a front skid plate and tow hooks.

The Expedition Tremor comes standard with a high-output 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 that puts out 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, not to mention a Rock Crawl mode and the trail equivalent of one-pedal driving. The same engine is optional in Platinum trim. The standard 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, meanwhile, is rated at 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft. The less powerful unit that used to motivate XLT and Limited models is no more.

Before going any further, we should tell you that maximum towing capacity—when properly equipped—has been increased from 9,200 lbs to 9,600 lbs.

Versatility and Technology Front and Centre

Inside the 2025 Ford Expedition, an available new motorized centre console can slide fore and aft nearly eight inches to maximize space and convenience for first- and second-row occupants. And you know what else is nice? The middle of the new 40/20/40-split rear bench seat folds down independently to create a centre aisle for hauling long objects such as skis, fishing rods or lumber while still allowing seating for six.

Of course, one of the main highlights of the cabin is the so-called Ford Digital Experience, which in the Expedition’s case consists of a centre touchscreen paired with a configurable 24-inch panoramic display, the latter positioned near the lower edge of the windshield. Combined with the slightly flatter steering wheel design, this makes information more visible for drivers.

Designed to prioritize the use of voice, Google Assistant serves as the default voice assistant in the new Expedition and Alexa Built-in is also available as an alternative for in-vehicle controls. Google Maps and Google Play apps are available, too, though via the Ford Connectivity Package that will require a paid subscription after one year. Bummer.

Another key feature is BlueCruise 1.4 which, as previously reported, delivers a smoother, more natural drive and increases the average amount of time owners can spend in hands-free mode. Again, however, customers will be required to subscribe sooner or later to keep using the system.

Ordering for the 2025 Ford Expedition opens on October 24, but units won’t show up at dealers until next spring. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
