2025 Chevrolet Colorado to Offer TurboMax Engine Option Only
Completely redesigned for 2023, and pushed to the extremes with a ZR2 Bizon model for 2024, the Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup is available exclusively with a turbocharged 2.7-litre four-cylinder engine. Three output levels were initially offered, but then the company dropped the Turbo Plus variant last year, the one that delivered 310 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque.
The 2025 Colorado that’s going on sale soon will also eliminate an engine variant, namely the base one producing 237 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Since performance was limited, particularly when towing (max 3,500 lbs), sales were relatively marginal.

In other words, no matter which Colorado you select going forward—from the entry-level WT and LT to the fearsome Trail Boss and ZR2—your only option under the hood will be the top-line TurboMax engine, which is rated at 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. It’s how you can get up to 7,700 lbs of towing capability and a payload of up to 1,490 lbs.
Chevrolet confirmed the news to several U.S. media outlets earlier this week.
A similar engine strategy was already in place with the Colorado’s non-identical, more upscale twin, the GMC Canyon. Things will therefore be simpler not only for customers but also from a manufacturing standpoint.
Now, we’ll have to see how this change affects pricing for the 2025 Chevy Colorado, which has yet to be announced. Right now, the cheapest 2024 model (WT 4x2) costs $38,433 including freight, PDI and other fees, with the TurboMax option adding just $1,480 to the total.
