New 2025 MINI Cabriolet Brings Back Cool Feature for Open-Top Drivers
Another car is joining the next-generation MINI Cooper family. Following the electric Cooper SE as well as the conventionally powered 3 Door and 5 Door, here comes the 2025 MINI Convertible.
At first glance, the redesigned model looks just like its siblings, but a closer look reveals a key difference: the taillights have been carried over from the previous generation. The reason likely has something to do with the cabriolet’s trunk. By the way, there are 215 litres of cargo space with the soft top closed, but just 160 litres when opened.

The fully automatic top can be activated at the touch of a button and can also be fully retracted at speeds of up to 30 km/h, a process that requires 18 seconds. When the roof is closed, the sunroof function can be used at any time with an opening length of up to 40 cm, just like before. A small wind deflector between the cockpit and the rear helps reduce turbulence.
Highlighting the dashboard is a round 9.5-inch OLED touchscreen. The instruments in front of the driver are gone, but there’s still a head-up display providing vital information.
Said touchscreen is powered by a brand new infotainment system complete with an intelligent voice assistant named Spike. In a cool twist, the company has decided to bring back a feature now called Always Open Timer, showing the time traveled with the top down. So-called “MINI Experience Modes” that change the look, sound and feel of the cockpit are available, as well.
As for motivation, the base model comes with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 161 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. In Cooper S trim, these numbers increase to 201 horsepower and 221 lb-ft. The only transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch unit since MINI has killed the manual gearbox. Depending on your selection, look for 0-100 km/h sprints in 8.2 seconds or 6.9 seconds.
A John Cooper Works Convertible will follow at some point, MINI assures, but you can already forget about an electric variant.
The 2025 MINI Convertible will reach U.S. showrooms in January of 2025 and is confirmed for Canada, too, although the exact timing and pricing details have yet to be announced.
