Old Nissan Kicks to Be Sold Alongside New Kicks for 2025
So, this new 2025 Nissan Kicks is pretty expensive, eh? The company has increased the base price to the point where you now have to minimally spend just shy of $30,000 (including freight and PDI) to get one.
Well, good news: the first-generation Kicks will continue to be sold in Canada for the 2025 model year under the name Kicks Play.
The subcompact crossover has solidified itself as Nissan’s second best-selling vehicle—after the Rogue—despite missing an AWD option and settling for a small 1.6-litre engine that generates a modest 122 horsepower. Cheap pricing has made it attractive to a lot of people.
Nissan Canada executives don’t want to risk losing so many customers, especially among those who don’t necessarily seek more power or the latest gadgets.
The 2025 Nissan Kicks Play is now on sale with a base MSRP of $22,598. Even when freight and PDI are included, it still manages to cost less than 25 grand. Oh, and it’s $4,600 cheaper than the most affordable 2025 Kicks, too.
That’s for the entry-level Kicks Play S, which comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, as well as the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of advanced safety systems.
Another trim level is available, namely the SV starting at $25,198 (plus $2,030 freight and PDI). This one is much better equipped, featuring 17-inch alloy wheels, silver-painted roof rails, rear disc brakes, intelligent cruise control, an 8-inch touchscreen along with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, remote engine start, heated front seats, heated steering wheel and automatic climate control.
Nissan is not saying how long it will keep selling both generations of the Kicks (which are built in Mexico for the North American market, by the way). Consumer demand will obviously be a factor. In all likelihood, the Kicks Play will stick around for a single model year and not return for 2026, but we’ll see in time.
