Volvo, Polestar Release Their NACS Adapter Giving Access to Tesla Superchargers

Published on October 30, 2024 in Electric by Guillaume Rivard

Back in June 2023, Volvo became the first non-American automaker to make a deal with Tesla so that its electric vehicles could gain access to thousands of Superchargers across the United States and Canada—nearly 18,000 to be exact.

We’re now in the fall of 2024 and the Swedish company is finally releasing its North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter.

The adapter is included with the purchase of a new 2025 Volvo EX90, EX40 or EC40. What’s more, current Volvo EV drivers can order one at authorized Volvo dealers in Canada for $310 starting today, with shipping to begin on November 18.

Availability of adapters for the EX30 will be announced later, Volvo said.

With the Volvo Cars app, drivers of fully electric Volvo cars can find tens of thousands of public charging stations (including Superchargers), get real-time information on availability of chargers and pay for their charging session through one single interface.

“Today we are taking a major step to providing access to easy and convenient charging infrastructure for Volvo drivers in the United States and Canada, furthering our commitment to EV adoption,” said Mike Cottone, President of Volvo Car USA and Canada.

At some point starting in 2025, future Volvo EVs in North America will be equipped with an NACS charging port, eliminating the need for said adapter. Drivers who wish to continue charging in the Combined Charging System (CCS) of chargers will be able to do so with an adapter provided by Volvo.

Following the move of its parent company, Polestar today announced that its future cars in North America will adopt an NACS port as standard equipment and until then, owners can order an NACS adapter through their local Polestar Service Center, giving them access to nearly 18,000 Superchargers across North America.
