First Tesla Cybertrucks Land in Canada, Cheaper Models to Arrive Later

Published on November 5, 2024 in Electric by Guillaume Rivard

After selling around 40,000 units of the Cybertruck in the U.S. in just under a full year, Tesla has now officially started deliveries in Canada. Some of the first units to land north of the border this week were in Laval, Quebec.

The company initially began taking firm orders in early August, with priority given to reservation holders.

High-Price Foundation Series

For now, only two ultra-expensive models are available to Canadian customers. The Cybertruck AWD Foundation Series comes with a base MSRP of $137,990, which doesn’t include freight, PDI and dealer fees or the applicable taxes such as the federal luxury tax. This dual-motor Cybertruck produces a total of 600 horsepower, sprints from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and can travel up to 512 km on a full battery charge.

Then there’s the so-called Cyberbeast Foundation Series starting at $165,990. Essentially, that model will cost owners more than $200,000. Using three motors that generate a combined 845 horsepower, it achieves 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 2.7 seconds, but range drops to 484 km. In both cases, maximum towing capacity is rated at 4,990 kg (11,000 lbs).

Orders for cheaper Tesla Cybertruck models in Canada are expected to open toward the end of 2024.

The Car Guide’s Cybertruck Review

In early October, The Car Guide’s Louis-Philippe Dubé travelled to Tesla's native California to take a first look and drive of the Cybertruck in its two-motor Foundation Series edition. The first truck he booked (through Turo) broke down even before he could take possession of it. Luckily, a replacement was quickly found and this one barely had 300 miles (482 kilometres) on the odometer.

“With top-tier performance, 512 kilometres of range and cutting-edge technologies, the Cybertruck is an all-out demonstration of Tesla's technical know-how, all in a physique that stands out from anything else you’ll come across on the road,” he wrote in his first-drive review, adding that the polarizing truck “drives better than it looks.”
