Volkswagen to Offer Free Part Replacement on Three Older Models

Published on November 11, 2024 in News by Guillaume Rivard

If you own a 2012-2016 Volkswagen equipped with a diesel engine, watch your mailbox. The automaker might soon reach out to offer a free part replacement.

To be clear, no safety recall is involved here. Rather, Volkswagen Canada is conducting a campaign to recover potentially faulty auxiliary heater elements for further analysis in support of a Transport Canada defect investigation (file no. 3280-15-10).

Affected models include the 2013-2015 Beetle, 2012-2014 Golf and 2012-2016 Jetta, more specifically 35,086 units across Canada that were built between May 25, 2011 and June 1, 2016.

For the 2016 Jetta, only the non-TDI Jetta Hybrid model is involved in this parts recovery program.

Volkswagen Canada will notify owners by mail in the coming weeks and advise them to take their car to a dealership to replace the auxiliary heater element at no charge.

The German automaker notoriously moved on from its TDI engines in 2016 after it was caught using a cheat device during emission tests—a scandal known as Dieselgate.
