Recalled Hyundai, Kia, Genesis EVs Need Fixing Again
Back in March of this year, a problem involving the charging system and the 12V battery on several electric vehicles from Hyundai, Kia and Genesis forced the Korean automakers to recall a very large number of units.
In fact, it was believed that up to 600,000 could be affected globally, including 26,000 in Canada. Well, guess what? Not only has the recall just been expanded (over 45,000 in Canada), but units that have already been repaired need fixing again.

The EVs we’re talking about include the 2022-2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 and 2023-2025 IONIQ 6, 2022-2024 Kia EV6 (but apparently not the EV9) as well as the 2023-2024 Genesis GV60, 2023-2025 Genesis Electrified GV70 and 2023-2024 Genesis Electrified G80.
According to the recall notice, the integrated charging control unit (ICCU) could become damaged over time. As a result, the 12V battery will not charge and could cause the vehicle to enter a reduced power mode. If this happens, and drivers continue to use the vehicle, there could be a loss of power to the wheels.
This problem will cause a warning light to turn on and warning messages to display before any loss of power.
Affected owners will be notified by mail and asked to take their vehicle to a dealership for a software update. Units that are awaiting delivery will be put on a temporary stop-sale order. Dealers will also inspect and replace the ICCU and ICCU fuse if necessary.
