2025 Toyota Corolla Cross Gets a Gift From Mazda, Costs $1,000 More

The refreshed Toyota Corolla Cross introduced in Thailand earlier this year won’t make it to North America, at least not right now. The 2025 model going on sale in Canada today is essentially unchanged save for a few body colour revisions and a new “Beyond Zero” badge on the liftgate of the hybrid variant.

You know, Toyota is used to sharing its expertise and technology with other automakers. The latest example is the new Mazda CX-50 Hybrid, which borrows its gas-electric powertrain from the highly successful RAV4 Hybrid. However, in this case, it’s the other way around.

The Corolla Cross and CX-50 are built at the same assembly plant in Alabama, and for 2025 Mazda is gifting its signature Soul Red Crystal paint to Toyota’s small SUV (and no other Toyota, just to be clear). The new body colour replaces Barcelona Red and requires an extra of $255 on gas-powered models. On the Corolla Cross Hybrid, it comes with a black roof for a two-tone exterior that costs $795.

Speaking of prices, the entire lineup has been hit with a hike of about $1,000. That’s hard to swallow considering we’re looking at the same exact vehicle from 2024. Instead of $30,305-$40,005, all-inclusive pricing now ranges from $31,359-$41,054. This is the result of both higher MSRPs and increased freight, PDI, dealer and other fees.

As a reminder, the conventionally powered Corolla Cross features a 2.0-litre engine rated at 169 horsepower. All-wheel drive is optional on L and LE models and standard on LE Premium and XLE models. Combined fuel consumption is 7.3 or 7.8 L/100 km, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Corolla Cross Hybrid adds a pair of electric motors and generates 196 net horsepower while achieving an impressive 5.6 L/100 km. Unsurprisingly, it’s one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs in Canada.
