Kia Recalls Nearly 60,000 Soul Hatchbacks in Canada Over Braking Issue
Owners of a second-generation Kia Soul need to beware of a braking issue that could result in longer stopping distances and a greater risk of crashing.
Basically, all MY2014-2019 units that were sold in Canada—nearly 60,000—are being recalled due to brake lines under the vehicle that could corrode over time. If this happens, a brake line could fail and leak brake fluid, compromising braking power.

Kia will notify owners by mail in the coming weeks and advise them to take their Soul to a dealership for an inspection. If the brake lines are undamaged and safe, an anti-corrosion treatment will be applied. Otherwise, the brake lines will be replaced.
Keep in mind that this problem does not affect the battery-powered Soul EV. However, the latter is part of two other safety recalls that were announced earlier this year, covering the 2015-2019 models.
First, there could be a problem inside the high-voltage battery that may cause it to short circuit while driving. An update to the battery management system software is required, but there’s a chance dealers will have to replace the battery, as well.
Also, as we previously reported, a large number of units need to have their seat heater electronic control unit replaced—and possibly the seat heater pads, too—in order to prevent the heated front seats from overheating and burning occupants.
