Exclusive Kia EV6 GT Not Returning to Canada for 2025

Published on January 7, 2025 in Electric by Guillaume Rivard

The high-performance variant of the Kia EV6 electric crossover will no longer be offered in Canada despite the model continuing in the U.S. with a series of changes for 2025. A Kia Canada spokesperson confirmed the news to The Car Guide on Tuesday.

Starting at $69,995 plus freight and PDI, the 2024 Kia EV6 GT is by no means affordable, even when you add the $5,000 federal EV rebate to the equation. Dozens of unsold units are still sitting on dealer lots across the country.

The 2024 EV6 GT is a dual-motor, AWD-equipped model generating a total of 576 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque. With 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.2 seconds, it’s the fastest production vehicle ever offered by Kia. On the flip side, the 77.4kWh battery manages just 351 km of range according to Natural Resources Canada.

For 2025, the EV6 GT not only gets a few cosmetic revisions, but also increases battery capacity to 84 kWh resulting in longer range.

More importantly, output and torque are bumped to 601 horsepower (or 641 hp with GT mode activated) and 568 lb-ft, matching the new 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N. The latter is still the sportier, more track-focused alternative, mind you. Both feature a virtual gear shift system that simulates the feel and sound of a gas-powered car.

As performance enthusiasts, we’re sad that the upgraded EV6 GT won’t be sold in Canada. On the other hand, we quite understand Kia’s logic given its poor sales performance. Incidentally, the IONIQ 5 N will be a rare sight, as well, what with an MSRP just under $80,000 and no available incentives.

As for other 2025 EV6 models, which are slated to go on sale in the first half of the year, prices and range have yet to be announced. The lineup will include Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line and GT-Limited models. The first two will offer standard RWD and add a heat pump.
