Alfa Romeo Making Two Huge Decisions for Brand’s Future
Alfa Romeo is joining the long list of car companies scaling back their EV plans.
A few days ago, new CEO Santo Ficili told French media L’Argus that the brand won’t become fully electric by 2027 as previously envisioned and will instead implement a multi-energy strategy.

Regarding the next-generation Stelvio, to be built on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, Ficili said Alfa Romeo is working on hybrid variants in addition to the EV that was already planned. The Giulia will likely follow suit. The designs for both models is now finalized, apparently.
From Sedan to Crossover
Speaking of the Giulia, we can forget about the sedan as we know it. In the same interview, Ficili confirmed that “a new design and a new type of bodywork” will be used. And since the platform will be the same as the Stelvio’s once again, “you can imagine what kind of vehicle we will offer,” he said.
In other words, the next Giulia will morph into some sort of crossover with extra ground clearance and a higher driving position. The good news for car lovers out there is that it’s expected to retain a lower and sportier silhouette than the Stelvio (and Tonale), a bit like the Peugeot 408 pictured below.
Both the Giulia and Stelvio will reinvent Alfa Romeo styling including the scudetto front grille, possibly drawing inspiration from the pint-sized Junior crossover, and modernize their interiors with AI-based infotainment.
The reveal of the new Stelvio should take place sometime before summer. As for the Giulia, we’ll probably have to wait until 2026.
