Too Much Off-Road Driving May Cause This to Your New Tacoma, Toyota Warns
The latest Toyota Tacoma is doing more to attract midsize pickup shoppers. Most notably, there’s an available new i-Force MAX hybrid powertrain with plenty of muscle and increased efficiency, plus additional models such as the adventurous Trailhunter aimed at off-road driving and overlanding enthusiasts.
Speaking of off-road driving, the automaker has just issued a warning and a safety recall on more than 110,000 units of the 2024-2025 Tacoma in North America, 5,149 of which are in Canada.

The problem lies in the rear brake hoses, which could be damaged over time if there is enough build-up of mud and dirt inside the rear wheels from operating under certain off-road conditions. Toyota says there could be a brake fluid leak as a result, compromising braking performance and increasing the risk of crash.
The exact models to be recalled are not specified, but since the company is talking about Tacomas riding on 17-inch wheels and using 16-inch brake discs, they could only be SR5 or TRD Off-Road models. Both feature the turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine (up to 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque).
For all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will replace both rear brake hoses with improved ones at no charge. Owners will receive a mailed notice by early April.
In the meantime, you can find out if your Tacoma is part of the list by entering your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on Toyota Canada’s recall website. Incidentally, this is the first and only recall on the new Tacoma so far.
