Porsche, Toyota Lead 2025 CBB Best Residual Value Awards

Canadian Black Book (CBB) has just announced its 2025 Best Residual Value Awards, which forecast a vehicle’s value as a percentage of its original MSRP after four years.

As new vehicle inventories return to normal, residual values have shown a consistent trend of leveling off over the last two years, CBB notes. For 2023 and 2024 award winners, the average was 67.61% and 66.28%, respectively. However, the average for 2025MY vehicles has dropped to 60.93%.

Meanwhile, the gap between car residual values (58.45%) and those of the light-truck segments (63.53%) keeps widening, yet more evidence of the ever-increasing shift in consumer preference towards SUVs.

Gas vs. EV

Interestingly, electric SUVs and crossovers (58.35%) have yet to achieve the performance level of their internal combustion equivalents (65.05%), according to CBB. However, electric cars (55.75%) continue to outshine their conventionally powered alternatives (54.20%).

“Despite these advancements, electric vehicles are witnessing a decline in consumer interest when compared to past years, failing to garner substantial attention,” CBB President Yolanda Biswah said.

The Award Winners

Looking at all the different models on the Canadian market right now, the top three when it comes to projected residual value after four years are the Porsche 718 Boxster (70.40%), Toyota Land Cruiser (69,60%) and Toyota Tundra (68%). The first one has surpassed the Chevrolet Corvette, taking the lead in residual value for two consecutive years.

As far as brands are concerned, Toyota is No.1 among cars for the fourth straight year and also No.1 among SUVs/trucks for the third year in a row. Porsche leads all luxury brands, while GMC surprisingly stands atop ZEV manufacturers. Finally, Genesis is this year’s most improved brand in terms of projected residual value after four years.

CBB isn’t the only organization handing out residual value awards for new vehicles, mind you. We invite you to compare the list above with other winners recently announced by ALG, a division of J.D. Power.
