Rivian R1T, R1S Add Sand-Loving California Dune Edition

Published on February 19, 2025 in Electric by Guillaume Rivard

Following a comprehensive technical update for the 2025 model year, the Rivian R1T and R1S are now getting a special treatment in the form of a California Dune Edition. This marks the first limited-edition models for the electric duo.

The main highlight is an exclusive new paint colour inspired by the shifting shades of windswept sands and paired with a Darkout Package. The latter provides the perfect contrast to the sandy tones of California Dune with dark accents all over the vehicle, from badging to the skidplate.

Next is a standard All-Terrain Package including a reinforced underbody shield, air compressor and the customer’s choice of two All-Terrain wheel options—dark or colour-matched.

The California Dune Edition then adds unique accessories, for example black crossbars carrying MAXTRAX recovery boards. Whether driving in the sand or in the snow, these are sure to come in handy at some point. The R1T also features a powered tonneau cover.

Inside, the high-contrast cabin combines Sandstone-coloured surfaces on most of the seats, centre console and door panels. The rest is finished in Mountain Black. A rugged flooring material inspired by outdoor gear repels sand, resists water and is super easy to clean, Rivian claims.

The California Dune Edition exclusively comes with a Tri-Motor system (new for 2025), which generates 850 horsepower and 1,103 lb-ft of torque. Yes, you’ve read that right. It can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds—on paved roads, of course, not in the dunes. Maximum range is estimated at 529 km.

Rivian has not said how many units of this limited edition it plans to build. Orders are now accepted, with deliveries to start in 6-8 weeks according to the online configurator. In Canada, pricing starts at $149,900 for the R1T and $158,900 for the R1S excluding applicable taxes and fees. Get your beach apparel ready.
