2026 Volkswagen Tiguan Adds Brawnier Turbo Model

Published on April 16, 2025 in New York by Guillaume Rivard

If you're thinking of buying the all-new 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan when it goes on sale later this spring, here's a good reason to wait: the company will be adding a top-of-the-range model with a more powerful turbo engine for 2026, and it will arrive as early as this fall.

Unlike other Tiguans, which are limited to 201 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque, the new Tiguan Turbo Highline R-Line will generate 268 hp and 258 lb-ft, making it one of the most potent compact SUVs available.

This is the result of several upgrades and modifications, including a larger turbocharger that enables higher boost pressure, combined with a lower 10.5:1 compression ratio. The engine also benefits from stronger pistons and connecting rods, a nitrided crankshaft, oil cooling for the pistons, as well as variable valve lift on both the intake and exhaust side. Naturally, it continues to be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard 4MOTION all-wheel drive.

In terms of styling, the Tiguan Turbo Highline R-Line stands-out with unique bumpers, side sills and 20-inch wheels. An LED light bar and illuminated logo can be found at both ends. As with other Tiguans, there are many body colours to choose from including three new options—Avocado Green Pearl, Ascot Grey and Monterey Blue Pearl.

Inside, look for premium materials like genuine walnut wood, a wrapped and double-stitched centre console and upgraded Varenna leather seating surfaces. Volkswagen’s 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro system is standard and joined by a huge 15.0-inch centre touchscreen. A so-called Driving Experience Dial located in the console allows for easy adjustment of volume along with Drive Mode Select and the new Atmospheres feature, which combines synchronized ambient lighting and audio settings.

Beyond all of the above, this Tiguan is loaded with content, including wireless charging, tri-zone climate control, head-up display, 12-speaker harman kardon sound system, power liftgate, 12-way power front seats with 10-point full-back massage and ventilation, heated rear outboard seats and more. Safety is covered by a comprehensive suite of IQ.DRIVE driver assistance features.

How much? That remains to be seen, but considering the 2025 Tiguan Highline starts at $49,695 including $2,200 freight and PDI, we’d bet around $53,000. Don’t miss our first-drive review of the new Volkswagen Tiguan coming up soon.
