Wayne Gretzky Once Owned This 2006 Ford GT, Now It Could Be Yours

Published on June 2, 2025 in News by Guillaume Rivard

With the Stanley Cup finals getting underway this week and featuring the team that Wayne Gretzky is arguably the most famous for, the Edmonton Oilers, one of the cars that once belonged to The Great One also finds itself in the spotlight.

Following the Rolls-Royce Corniche that was gifted to him back in 1994, his 2006 Ford GT happens to be up for sale, too, more specifically via Bring a Trailer.

The GT was revived a first time in 2005-2006. This particular unit, one of 343 Heritage Edition cars that were produced back then, sports the iconic blue and orange Gulf livery as a tribute to the Le Mans-winning GT40s from 1968 and 1969. It is complemented by Ford GT graphics along with #99 roundels, obviously, as a nod to Gretzky’s jersey number.

The car has spent very little time on the road, with the odometer reading just 1,226 miles (1,973 km). It is currently located in Atlanta, Georgia.

A supercharged 5.4-litre V8 paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and helical limited-slip differential delivers 550 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. It was said that the 2006 GT could accelerate from 0-100 km/h in about 3.5 seconds.

Gretzky’s car was factory-optioned with forged aluminum BBS wheels and a McIntosh stereo. Additional equipment includes Brembo brakes, HID headlights, a front splitter, rear diffuser and black leather interior with air conditioning.

We're pretty curious to see the result of the auction, which closes on June 6. The values of Ford GTs from that time have been on the rise of late, but of course, none has ever been owned by the greatest hockey player in NHL history. The highest bid at the time of writing was $625,000 USD, equivalent to $856,000 CAD.

Check out the photo gallery at the top of the page to see more of the car.
