With the phenomenal 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and its 1,064 horsepower about to hit the road—the one that can reach a top speed of 375 km/h and run a quarter-mile in less than 10 seconds—our team at The Car Guide once again asks: who needs that kind of power and acceleration? Needless to say the vast majority of people can make do with much more modest performance.

On the flip side, there are cars and SUVs that accelerate as if life were eternal. Getting on the highway requires patience and planning. Overtaking? Good luck!

The following 10 are among the slowest from 0-100 km/h you can buy in 2025, excluding full-size SUVs and trucks. With the discontinuation of the 78-hp Mitsubishi Mirage, a new number one is crowned.

Kia Sportage

Surprised? The Sportage uses an aging 2.5-litre engine that generates 187 horsepower. Yet, according to our tests, its 0-100 km/h sprint takes 10.3 seconds.

Toyota Corolla Cross

The Corolla Cross may have 169 horsepower and many other pleasant attributes, but it is not fast. We measured it at 10.3 seconds from 0-100 km/h.

Subaru Impreza

Subaru's compact car is by no means a speed merchant. In fact, the Impreza needs 10.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h with its 152-horsepower, 2.0-litre engine.

Nissan Versa

Nissan's Versa subcompact sedan is super-cheap but also super-slow. The 1.6-litre engine under the hood cranks out just 122 horsepower propels it from 0-100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.

Kia Niro

The standard hybrid variant of the Niro shines with combined fuel consumption of 4.4 L/100 km, but its 139 horsepower deliver underwhelming acceleration from 0-100 km/h (10.4 seconds).

Subaru Crosstrek

The Crosstrek offers an excellent all-wheel drive system and right-sized package. However, the base models make do with the 2.0-litre engine's timid performance (152 horsepower). Accelerating from 0-100 km/h takes 10.5 seconds.

Chevrolet Trailblazer

The Trailblazer returns without major changes for 2025. Entry-level FWD models are powered by a turbocharged 1.2-litre triple-cylinder engine developing 137 horsepower through a CVT. Estimated time to 100 km/h is 10.5 seconds.

Nissan Kicks Play

Another Nissan product. The previous generation of the subcompact crossover has been kept alive for 2025 under the name Kicks Play, with the same engine as the Versa. Expect 10.7 seconds to reach 100 km/h. This model will not be back for 2026.

Hyundai Venue

The little crossover that replaced the Accent but kept the same engine is awfully slow. In fact, the 121-horsepower Venue accelerates from 0-100 km/h in an estimated 11 seconds.

Mitsubishi RVR

The oldest crossover on the market is also the slowest, at least when equipped with the base 2.0-litre engine delivering 148 hp. The RVR needs 11.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h.
