Spyker Expanding Under Saab Banner?

Published on June 7, 2010 in News by Dan Fritter

The strategy of utilizing halo vehicles to pull would-be-customers into showrooms is a tried and true tactic of automakers the world over. Be it Dodge’s Viper, Ford’s GT, or Audi’s R8, there’s no denying the magnetic appeal of the shapely supercar when it comes to attracting passing crowds, just ask anyone that’s stopped in a gas station in any of these vehicles.

But the reality is this: halo cars are far from exotic. Rare? Yes, unquestionably. But exotic; no. A word reserved for far more exclusive vehicles than any of the aforementioned mass-produced supercars, it’s a term that describes Dutch supercar manufacturer Spyker to a T. With production runs typically limited to three digits or less, Spyker is the very definition of exclusive. However, if Spyker has their way, the incredibly well-crafted and artistic Spyker lineup may begin appearing at your local Saab dealership. As the current owners of Saab, Spyker is hoping to use a select few Saab dealers to nearly double the reach of their Spyker dealership network; going from 35 dealers to 60. Potentially acting as a sort of halo brand to the iconic Saab badge, such a commitment would require Spyker to dramatically increase their production capacity, which may come in the form of a larger Spyker lineup including the much-talked about D12 super sports utility vehicle and/or a possible platform-shared entry-level model vis a vis the Audi R8/Lamborghini Gallardo.
