Next-Gen Cadillac XT5 Will Arrive in 2027

The withdrawal of gasoline models in recent months has certainly come as a shock to some, especially popular (and profitable) crossovers like the Cadillac XT4, XT5, and XT6, when the shift to electric vehicles isn’t going as well as projected? Fortunately, according to an article by the Detroit Free Press, there will be a sequel to the XT5 story. In fact, Cadillac wasted no time in confirming the news, not only for the United States, but also for Canada. This reflects Cadillac's commitment to putting customers first—offering both electric and gasoline options so Canadians can choose the luxury that fits their lifestyle," said Mike Speranzini, general manager of Cadillac Canada.

Instead of ending production of the XT5 at the end of 2026, Cadillac now plans to bring the latest generation of the model to the North American market. It should also be noted that in China, a new, completely redesigned XT5 featuring Cadillac's latest design cues is already on the road. At the time of writing, it was impossible to know whether this Chinese version of the XT5 would be adopted in its entirety for the North American market. But in recent years, several GM models from China made their way to this side of the Pacific Ocean (think of the Buick Envision, for example). That being said, the 2027 XT5 should closely resemble the vehicle shown in the official photos from the Chinese division.

Cadillac, which was committed to electrifying its entire fleet, is therefore revising its strategy by bringing back one of its most popular models of the last decade, if we include SRX sales. The current XT5 can be ordered with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine or a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6. It remains to be seen whether the XT5 will come with a choice of powertrains.

In contrast, the most recent XT5 sold in China is powered by a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine assisted by a hybrid system. This powertrain develops 233 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. For reference, the 4-cylinder turbo engine in the 2025 XT5 delivers almost identical figures (235 hp, 258 lb-ft).

With the shift to electric vehicles taking longer than expected, adding a more fuel-efficient option would probably be a good idea for North America. The manufacturer's confirmation refers to a new gasoline-powered XT5. But does this mean that there will be no hybrid option in the North American portfolio? Not necessarily.

Production of the Cadillac XT5 will remain at the US plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, until the end of 2026. The strategy for the next XT5 is unknown at the moment.
