Ford Fan Carey Price Tells Us Why He Prefers His Diesel-Burning Super Duty
The dream of a Stanley Cup return to Montreal almost came true in 2021, but much has changed since then—both on and off the ice.
Among other things, star goaltender Carey Price hung up his skates, sold his Candiac home on the South Shore, and moved with his wife and children to Kelowna, B.C. where he pursues his other passions. Of course, he keeps coming back to Quebec a few times a year.

You may have already seen actress Sydney Sweeney with her Bronco online. Well, the former Canadiens netminder marks the beginning of this campaign in Canada, starting today and focusing on the F-Series, the F-150 in particular.
The F-Series, just in case you forgot, has not only been the best-selling pickup in Canada for 59 years, but also the best-selling vehicle overall for 15 years.
It All Started With the Ranger
We had the opportunity to chat with Carey Price, who opened up about his long history with Ford, starting with the seven-hour roundtrips he made several times a week with his father in the family Ranger to go to his hockey practices and games.
“I have fond memories of that time spent on the road with my dad, just like our family camping trips,” he told us.
Shortly after his NHL debut, Price formed a relationship with Jacques Olivier of the Olivier Ford dealership in Saint-Hubert, on Montreal's south shore. One of the first vehicles he drove was a 2008 F-150 Harley Davidson Edition. Their partnership also led to the creation of two Carey Price special editions of the F-150 in 2017, each limited to 100 units.
“I never had the chance to meet with some of the buyers, but I would like to say thank you and, above all, continue to show your love and passion for the Canadiens,” he said.
From F-150 to Super Duty
These days, the retired goaltender is driving the biggest and arguably the most badass truck around—an F-350 Super Duty Tremor equipped with a 6.7-litre Power Stroke diesel V8 that delivers over 1,000 lb-ft of torque.
Fun fact: During the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs, we actually compared Price to a Ford Super Duty, as both are capable of carrying an entire team on their backs (the latter tows up to 38,000 lbs) and blocking the lane or the net like few others can. He seemed to appreciate this comparison when we brought it up during the interview, even jokingly asking if his automotive alter ego would have single or dual rear wheels.
Price, it should be noted, has always been and remains a huge outdoor enthusiast, including hunting, ice fishing, camping and skiing. He needed a vehicle that could easily tow his 30-foot trailer, among other things.
“With the kids, too, we have so much gear to haul, so I naturally opted for the Super Duty,” he explained.
Choosing an off-road-focused Tremor model was also a smart move given the sometimes challenging trails and mountain roads of the B.C. Interior that Price regularly drives on. Would he ever consider an electric pickup like the F-150 Lightning? We couldn't help but ask him that question as we wrapped up our interview.
"I'm sure this type of truck has its purpose around town, like for everyday commutes. It's great that Ford offers one, but honestly, it's not for me or our family's needs, with long distances to cover in both summer and winter."
