2026 Subaru Crosstrek Drops Base Engine, New Hybrid Model Isn’t Cheap
The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek is now on sale in Canada, and we can tell you how much it costs. Unsurprisingly, the all-new e-Boxer Hybrid model is the most expensive you can buy.
Let's start at the bottom of the lineup, where the Convenience trim starts at $33,263 including fees. That's a $900 increase over the equivalent 2025 model. Just above that, the Touring model rises $700 to $36,263.

These price hikes are easy to explain: Subaru has eliminated their 2.0-litre engine developing 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. The two entry-level Crosstreks now receive the same 2.5-litre engine as the Onyx and Limited models, with 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. A similar decision was made in the U.S., by the way, and we think it’s smart.

Speaking of Onyx and Limited, their all-inclusive prices for 2026 are $37,763 (+$600) and $40,763 (+$400), respectively. There are no significant changes to either one.
Crosstrek e-Boxer Hybrid Sits at the Top
As we found out earlier this year, the Crosstrek Limited is alternatively available with a next-generation, series-parallel hybrid system combining a newly developed 2.5-litre Atkinson/Miller-cycle boxer engine with an electric motor-generator and electric traction motor, as well as a 1.1kWh lithium-ion battery.

Total output is rated at 194 horsepower, which is just 14 horsepower more than the gas-only Crosstreks. It’s all handled by an electronically controlled and continuously variable transmission. Naturally, Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive system is still part of the equation, maintaining superior capability in all weather conditions and also off-road. The system is once again mechanically coupled to the front and rear wheels unlike the eAWD systems used by some competitors. It comes with X-MODE featuring Hill Descent Control, plus 8.7 inches of ground clearance—besting many larger SUVs.
How’s fuel consumption? We don’t have the official ratings from Natural Resources Canada yet, but Subaru claims a combined 6.5 L/100 km whereas the 2.5-litre engine achieves 8.1 L/100 km. If you’re wondering about direct competitors, the FWD-only Kia Niro remains unbeatable with an average as low as 4.4 L/100 km, while the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid is rated at 5.6 L/100 km.

The 2026 Crosstrek e-Boxer Hybrid also stands out with special badging on the rear liftgate, 18-inch alloy wheels in a dark grey finish, as well as two new exclusive body colours including Sand Dune Pearl and Citron Yellow Pearl. Inside, look for a tablet-style 11.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus an available 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster showing key vehicle and hybrid system info. Maximum towing capacity is unchanged at 680 kg or 1,500 lbs, but trunk space is down from 564 to 527 litres.
All of that can be yours from a whopping $43,263, again including fees. This is approximately $1,500 to $4,300 more expensive than the aforementioned Corolla Cross Hybrid, although delivery times will likely be shorter.
