Toyota Teases Electric Corolla Concept… And a Six-Wheeled Lexus Van?
The Japan Mobility Show (formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show) is fast approaching, and Toyota has once again planned a number of introductions.
Some of the vehicles will not be designed for the North American market, mind you, while others will debut in concept form only. That said, the teasers we’re getting this week are definitely intriguing.

Among the new products on display will be a Toyota Corolla concept that may or may not exactly preview the next generation of the venerable Japanese compact sedan, due to launch in Canada as a 2027 model. One thing’s for sure: based on the images released by the company, the concept doesn’t look too far off from entering production.

In another surprising twist, a flap appears on the front fender, as if it were a plug-in hybrid or fully electric car. What does this mean? Will the future Corolla be available in both gasoline/hybrid and battery-powered variants, much like the next-generation 2026 Lexus ES? Could it come in two different configurations? We'll hopefully have the answers by the end of the month, but as far as we can tell, boring Corolla designs could become a thing of the past. Amen.
Toyota also plans to unveil in Tokyo a coupe variant of its Century ultra-luxury SUV for the Japanese market. We hear the automaker wants to turn the Century nameplate into a new standalone brand positioned above Lexus.

And speaking of Lexus, the luxury brand will be showcasing an ultra-futuristic, six-wheeled van concept. Yes, you read that right. This one will keep the LS name alive—the full-size sedan is about to disappear, remember—and will be a radical departure from the Lexus LM that is currently sold in select countries.

The Car Guide will be on hand at the Japan Mobility Show starting October 29 to bring you extensive coverage of the event. Watch this space.
